Russian Style Ravioli, a. k. a. Harchevnya in Brooklyn. NY is a good value restaurant. It has a variety of Russian, Ukrainian, Uzbekistanian, and other dishes for affordable price. It is famous for it’s “Home style eggplant” and Ukrainian vareniki.

If you want to hear about famous russian hospitality, this would not be an ideal place to visit. At first the service appeared to be exactly what you would expect from respectful establishment. My order was taken and then repeated back to me. I was told that the order will be ready in 15 to 20 minutes. I show up to pick up my order about 30 min after just to make sure that they have enough time to prepare it. To my suprise i was taken aside by counter girl and was told that they did not have the meat i ordered and they’ll be happy to make something else. Let me repeat this. I was told that they did not have the meat i ordered when i went to pick up my food. No phone call was made to let me know that ahead of time. Nothing. So if you want to have sour experience and wasted time is something that you have in abundance then this place is for you. If not I suggest to go across the street to cafe Roma. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight! I’m sorry you had such an awful experience at “Harchevnya”…

The best home made food I had in years in Brooklyn chicken tabaka is made out of a young chicken with onion and garlic, with glassed baked potato’s, and hard pressed and pen fried. just like in Russia. Hey as far as service I live on Conney Island and when I order my food its ready in 10-15 minutes, and if there may be a delay they in fact will always call ahead of time. I eat there for 5 years and will continue..

Last week I ate at Harchevnya, and I have not stopped talking about it since. I have told all my friends, so I was delighted to find this website so I can tell more people. The food was delicious, fresh and served hot. It was a nice break from chain restaurants.
The service was friendly and did not waste any time. I recommend the Beef Stroganoff.

Wow they have a forum about the best place in brooklyn me and my family my friends drive from new jersey to have the greats chicken marsala and house cutlets ummm umm good. taking a minute to read the blog ZARAZ i guess we all know what that means if you represent cafe roma you dont go around trashing other places and if this did happen to you i bet they called you just didnt answer and i bet you got there not 30 min before but in like 2hours when they tought you aint coming and sold your food to someone who wanted it hot. But then again if something like that happend it happens every where even in McDonalds. They did say sorry and offered you somethin else. belive me one sour experience does not beat the fact that You can eat great for less. and you can bring your own Drinks why spent $300 on a bottle at roma when you can spent on a goose $35 and enjoy a quite dinner or a loud party your choice.

I go there after work almost every day for the past 4 years the restaurant is small, but the food is awsome. cheap and home made. I prefer russian style ravioli very good the best in brooklyn.

I couldn’t afford to celebrate my birthday in a restaurant and a friend of mine told me about Harchevnya. I made arrangements for 34 people i ordered form sea food pasta to kani salad to Lamb Legs and shishkobabs and plenty more i got a 55$ banquet and afterwards i took a lot of food home. There was music lights the service was quick and pleasant. Vs going to like big restaurant and order the same food for 100$ a person I’m glad i made the Harchevnya choice. We r struggling right now financially but we still wanna have a life and I’m glad there r places like Harchevnya to allow us to do so.
