I went there once and i DO speak russian, but in no way i felt like a part of the family. I too have been ignored and felt the attitude from the "divas" :) have no desire to go there again. The store looked to me like it crawled straight out of Soviet times and the sales people acted accordingly. So it doesn't really matter whether you speak the language or not. I personally recommend the Golden Grain. As Magan mentioned in her comment the place is clean and the owner is nice and hospitable and always willing to help you find what you need. Bill,

The store at 5406 Birdwood is called Golden Grain, and it is totally different from Russian General Store, and I do not know whether it is open or closed. The location on Birdwood is now called Golden Grain, it is also a Russian store and deli. They have the best prices in Houston on Russian groceries and the deli is clean and nice.
