I have been writing my reviews for over 2 years now. I asked for your help in reviewing restaurants and adding new ones to my blog. There are, however, a few questions that I have not asked you yet:
Is there anything that I can do, in your opinion, to improve my reviews and help you in choosing a restaurant or a store to visit?
Is there any information that you would find helpful that I could add?
Do you like the way my website is organized? Could you suggest any improvements?
Do you have any information needs related to Russian food that are not yet fulfilled?
Please leave your feedback in comments to this post, or send me an email. Your help will be greatly appreciated and will help me to serve you better.

I visited a friend in Vancouver last year and stopped by at Rasputin restaurant for dinner. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in BC area. Besides the traditional Russian dishes, Rasputin features some great former USSR delicacies. I would recommend trying borshch and starters to really appreciate the cuisine.

Here are some more Russian restaurants in Beijing (from thatsbj.com):
“Moscow Restaurant
Moscow Restaurant’s ambiance is the War and Peace to Traktirr’s Dead Souls. This one-time ballroom is grand, epic even, with soaring ceilings and oh-so-Soviet pillars. Located in the barrens of Xizhimen, Moscow opened back in 1954, and was Beijing’s first foreign restaurant.
Though the atmosphere recalls Tolstoy, the food is a little more Gulag Archipelago. Salmon (RMB 59) was twin thin planks of fish, the crab salad (RMB 50) could be more accurately described as a mayonnaise swamp and there were no mashed potatoes to be had. But the Chicken Kiev (RMB 30) is worth ordering just for its presentation: the missile-shaped breaded cutlet was mounted at launch angle on a payload-like hunk of youtiao, and leaked a uraniumy dribble of butter when cut into. It’s hard to resist Cold War metaphors. Speaking of cold, the vodka wasn’t. But at 8 kuai per ounce of Stolichnaya, a simple cube of ice will suffice.

Traktirr
This perennially packed restaurant survives on word-of-mouth and reputation alone, and it’s not difficult to see why. There’s the rustic, homey decor, but it’s really the affordable prices that make Traktirr a winner. Many main courses are available for under RMB 30, and beers clock in at RMB 5 a pint. Comforting winter warmers include the hearty, but slightly dry, Chicken Kiev (RMB 30) and the chopped cutlet with fried egg (RMB 26), which was piping hot and wonderfully moist. The affordable food, the warmth of the staff and the homey ambiance explain the restaurant’s popularity.

Traktirr Pushkin
Nothing says “Russian” quite like dancers in spandex and heavily-accented renditions of Chris De Burgh classics. Well, perhaps not, but Beijing stalwart Traktirr’s second branch draws in the punters with its vigorous Ruskie entertainment. The baked eggplant and summer squash (RMB 18) was heavy but delicious, although the beef stroganoff (RMB 36) was a tad watery, while the trout fried in walnut crumbs (RMB 38) was very oily. However, people don’t really come here for the haute cuisine, so we necked our 10 kuai jiapi, sat back and soaked up more Lady in Rrrrrred.

White Nights
Portraits of Hollywood icons aren’t the first thing you’d expect inside a Russian restaurant, but then the glorious days of the Soviet Union have long passed and the frivolities and vices of the imperialists have become second nature to a once proud nation. Comrades can at least take heart from the food at White Nights, which remains true to the spirit of Mother Russia. Get your ruble’s worth with succulent peppercorn beef tenderloin accompanied by a working man’s serving of creamy mashed potato (RMB 35). Or try the poached salmon in white wine sauce, which costs a mere RMB 38 – not quite the Czar’s ransom you’d expect to pay. Sadly the service could induce discontent among the masses as large groups can be kept waiting, while oligarchic diners are more likely to get their dinner on time.
Little Birch restaurant is a high-end spot with exquisite cuisine without the Yabao Lu glitz. With its clean feel, it’s the spot for a quiet dinner with your comrades, or dining alone with Anna Karenina. thatsbj.com rates this restaurant as 4/5, with cheap to moderate pricing.
According to thatsbj.com, stars of Ukraine’s opera scene have somehow ended up performing at Kiev restaurant. They saunter among the tables dressed in military uniforms, belting out everything from Italian arias to Russian folk songs. You can request your favorites for RMB 50 a pop. The vodka kebabs and the indulgent Kiev pudding, which really is a rich cheesecake, come highly recommended.
Address: 13 Puhui Nanli, Yuyuantan Nanlu (west of the Millenium Monument), Haidian District

The Elephant is a good place to eat out of proportion and get drunk without the pretension of uppity, hyper-designed restaurants. This restaurant features good Russian food, especially the appetizers. I would recommend trying stuffed mushroom caps. The floor show was akin to Eastern Bloc Lakers’ girls wriggling out to Shakira. Located in a small alley off Yabaolu (50 meters north of Yatai Dasha), Chaoyang District.
Russian Fairytale, established in June 2000 as a Russian delicacies shop, is a large Russian center in Oxford. The restaurant serves exceptional food with a wide variety of salads, soups, home baked pastries, traditional Russian dishes, and beverages. Russian gifts, toys, and souvenirs are offered for sale in store and on the website as well.
Tsar’s Bar is conveniently located close to Oxford Circus station in London. The restaurant menu features beef stroganoff, borscht, salads, smoked salmon, blinis and soups. Bar is famous for a wide variety of vodka brands, including home-made flavored ones. Vodka is served in a shot glass in a bucket of ice. The smatterings of oil paintings hanging on the paneled walls of this hotel bar add a Russian touch to the decor, whereas the bar is in fact situated in the quintessentially English Langham Hotel.
Baltic restaurant is located opposite of Southwark tube and 5 minutes from Waterloo station, Tate Modern & South Bank. The restaurant is open for lunch 12:00-15:3, dinner 18:00-23:15, and for drinks 12:00-24:00. It is a cozy place to relax after work and during the weekend. The seasonal menu consists of a variety of food items for every taste. If you are planning to visit Baltic restaurant, it is recommended to book in advance, especially for groups more than 6 people.
The restaurant is conveniently situated in the heart of Bradford’s city centre on Manor Row, directly opposite the city’s registrar office and less than a minute’s walk away from the Forster Square train station. Open Tuesday-Thursday 17:30 – 23:00, Friday: 17:30- 00:00, Saturday: 17:00-01:00 and Sunday: 16:00-22:00.

Despite smaller capacity, Cosmos has a reputation of an excellent restaurant, that can put bigger ones to shame. It is famous for excellent customer service and great menu selections. This restaurant does not have a website, so if you have any additional information, please leave a comment to this post.

Potemkin restaurant and bar in London is one of the top 5 spots in London to get dumplings. This place serves lunch for under ten pounds and has the best Bloody Mary in town. Arrangements can be made to allow youngsters under 18 to be admitted to the restaurant area. Conveniently located next to Farringdon or Chancery Lane tubes, Potemkin is open Monday-Friday 12:00-23:00, and Saturday 18:00-23:00.
Erebuni Armenian-Russian restaurant in London was established in 1994. It is situated in the basement of London Guards Hotel at 36-37 Lancaster Gate. Featuring a wide variety of food and drinks, this restaurant has quite a few regulars along with popularity among tourists. Erebuni is open Monday through Saturday 4 pm till midnight.
Swan Lake is the first Russian restaurants established in Whales. It has a welcoming atmosphere in the best traditions of Russian hospitality. Besides the traditional menu dishes, the restaurant is famous for its selection of Russian beers and Georgian wines. Swan Lake is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. There is free on-site parking.
Pomegranate is a highly recommended Russian Georgian restaurant in San Diego. I am yet to try it myself - it was recommended to me by a friend. I found a lot of very positive reviews for Pomegranate, featuring quotes like “the only real restaurant in San Diego”, “a rear treasure of a restaurant”, and “you need to eat here at least ones”. As for the food - try the specials and the shashlyk. Oh, and don’t be repelled by the menu - it has funny descriptions of every dish without any explanation of what it actually is - what ever you select will be the best taste and quality.

Cheburechnaya is a restaurant in the heart of Queens that serves traditional Russian and Middle Eastern dishes. It has been around for over 5 years and has gained a great reputation along with a large crowd of regulars that love the place. Cheburechnaya can accommodate a party of any size because of it expanded interior. The menu features chebureki, soups, salads, fish, meat, and even breakfast foods. A few people recommended me to try this place when I’m in New York.
Samovar is located at 1077 Independence Ave in Mountain View. It is a cozy deli cafe that usually has fresh bakery along with salads, traditional Russian foods such as buckwheat, bird’s milk candy, and pelmeni. The selection has greatly improved over the past year and definitely has great value. There is also the Russian Club bookstore/movie rental place in the same space. I find it very convenient - get some pirozhnye Kartoshka then rent a Russian movie that recently came out and maybe get a nice book to read.
Not that long ago Samovar started a catering service as well as “cooking on demand” - they will make fresh dishes upon request. There is also a new banquet room that is available on the weekends.

One of the readers has recommended me Moscow2 - Russian cafe and grocery store. It is located in Spring, TX, only a few miles from Houston. Here is a quote from their website: “Moscow2 is located at the corner of Sawdust and Borough Park. We offer 100% authentic Russian food in a comfortable home-style setting. One need only try our famous Chicken “Kiev” or Borsch and one of our elite Georgian wines, all of which are affordable, to escape to Russia and enjoy its food.”
Moscow2 also has a good selection of Russian books and movies.
